How did you come to work at Data2Decisions?
I joined Data2Decisions as an Intern in April 2013, having come from the charity sector where I was a researcher. It was a big change but I was dead set on going into market research and expanding my technical skills and learning more about marketing, so I was really excited upon starting my internship. After a few months, I was offered a position as a Trainee Consultant so I leapt at the opportunity!
What gets you out of bed in the morning?
The people. Everyone here is really funny and friendly and I know that even when we have tough work deadlines we’ll still have a laugh along the way.
What’s the best thing about being in media and marketing?
Easily how fast it is evolving. The industry is going through some spectacular changes, particularly to do with new technology, especially the explosion of digital, the potential use of virtual reality and maybe even AI, and the wealth of new data available to us. I’m quite excited to see how analytics will change as well alongside this and how our day to day jobs will reflect all this.
What’s the best career advice you’ve been given?
Concentrate on your own path in life, not someone else’s.
Why did you start D2GetDown and what’s it all about?
Haha, great question. D2GetDown is when we allow one of our fellow colleagues to stretch their DJ muscles and play some music to the whole office on a Friday afternoon to see everyone into the weekend. I started it because I thought it would be cool for us to celebrate each week and how hard we’ve worked with a bit of fun. All people need is a theme and a DJ name.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
I think as a kid it was to be Virgil and fly Thunderbird 2, then I wanted to be a doctor, then a rock star, then I kind of grew up and realised I wanted to be a researcher. I hear it’s never too late to change, and that there aren’t any Thunderbirds out there, so you never know…
